Brian Portera
I joined NICHOLAS AIR in 2015 to champion the development of our Flight Support department. Driven by my lifelong ambition to become a professional pilot, I spent a few years refining my full-time flying experience before the unique culture of NICHOLAS AIR drew me back in 2020. Since my return, I have served as Assistant Chief Pilot and now as Chief Pilot. I find the most fulfillment in the daily mentorship of our pilots, helping them navigate both operational complexities and the personal challenges that come with a career in aviation. Seeing a pilot join our team, grow in their expertise, and uphold our high standards is what makes this role truly rewarding.
I am a proud graduate of Mississippi State University, and my life outside the cockpit is centered on my role as a husband and father. I’ve learned that the most important thing I can do is take every opportunity to be truly present for my family. Two highlights from my tenure here remain unforgettable: meeting Dave Matthews on the beach in North Eleuthera and the honor of flying a Member back to Georgia following his final chemotherapy treatment.
